Make’ Em is a fantastically amusing app featuring virtual puppets under your control. Make’ ‘em smile. Make ‘em dance. Make ‘em roll their necks and pop their eyes in surprise. Download Make’ Em for Android or iOS, and all their gestures and composures are yours!

Graphics

First levels look quite simple and cartoonish – just like a doll imitation game should. Girls and boys on the screen are drawn in plain 2D, just like in old animation. Still, it’s the expression that matters in this game, and when it comes to emotions and actions, they are drawn greatly. Simple visual side means that the game is compatible with older devices as well – for example, with iOS/iPadOS 11 or Android 5.0. In fact, it can be played virtually anywhere.

The designers’ imagination, though, sometimes works in unexpected ways. When you are to help your character to put on prescription glasses, the picture is vague, but as soon as you put the glasses right, it gets sharper. The objects you step on or otherwise interact with react like they should, and the overall ragdoll physics will make the game more fun.

Gameplay

Make’ Em mobile seems quite simple in the beginning. You see a picture or a person, you read what you should make them do. Make them smile? Stretch the corners of the mouth. Show surprise? Make their eyes bigger and mouth wide open. To make it easier, the movable elements are often highlighted with round buttons you need to drag where they belong. As you do your moves, the yellow bar above shows you how close you get.

The further you go, though, the more sophisticated it gets. You may have to solve simple mathematical problems, complete a series of movements (for example, to help the heroine fall asleep or start running), and so on. It’s not as simple and childish as it seems: to pass the levels, you need to understand body mechanics during everyday moves.

Replayability

The developers obviously aimed for making a meme generator, and Make ‘Em is sort of it. You may want to replay some levels to get perfect rates. The fewer moves it takes you to achieve the desired condition, the higher is your rate.

The base game is complemented by additional content packs. For example, Love Pack offers you two figures who need to express their feelings with your little help. TikTok challenges imitate real-life memetic challenges, like that with milk crates. To unlock them, you need to view through some ads or pay money.

So, Will You Make’ Em?

  • Graphics and Sound 7.0

  • Controls 8.0

  • Gameplay 8.0

  • Lasting Appeal 7.0

The game is more addictive and immersive than you might think about puppet simulation. Levels are short but often challenging, especially TikTok-inspired ones. Install Make’ Em and play it during short breaks, as one level may take just seconds. But the developers have lots of them, and their imagination is only inferior to that of kids playing with real physical dolls.

Pros:
  • Simple and immersive gameplay;
  • Short levels;
  • Inventive challenges;
  • Compatible with most devices;
Cons:
  • Playing dolls seems too unserious;
  • Too many ads between levels;
