Windows 11 Will Become Available to Users in October

Grace Edwards 06 Sep 2021

According to the official statement from Microsoft, the updated operating system is planned to be released on October 5th of this year. Those who already have eligible Windows 10 installed on their computers will be able to receive a free upgrade.

Similar to the previous updates of the system, it’s likely that the upgrades will roll out in several phases. In the beginning, new computers will get the upgrade, while other in-market devices will receive Windows 11 in the upcoming months after the release date. According to the company, they plan all eligible devices to receive the upgrade by the middle of 2022.

Not all features prepared by Microsoft will appear on the launch date. For instance, the introduction of Android apps to the operating system is something we will still have to wait for. It’s more than likely that this new addition won’t be released until 2022.

Also, Microsoft provided information on the minimum Windows 11 system requirements. If you have at least 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, and a 64-bit processor with at least two cores, you will be able to easily upgrade your device. If your computer doesn’t meet these requirements, it’s still possible to get access to Windows 11, but this version will be unsupported. It means that you probably won’t be able to receive proper updates, including the ones concerning security.

When it comes to Windows 10, the operating system will be supported until October of 2025. At the same time, it’s not obvious whether there will be any major updates within these four years or the company will be fully focused on the new version.

Do you use Windows as your operating system? What do you expect from this upcoming upgrade? We'd love to hear your opinions, so feel free to post them in the comments below!
