Apple has announced the introduction of new payment modes for Indian App store users. Prior to this time, Indian Apple users have had to use credit/debit cards to carry out transactions. The new payment modes introduced include the united payments interface (UPI), Netbanking, and RuPay. If you want to make in-app purchases and buy apps on the App Store, it just got easier. You could also use it when purchasing music on iTunes.

Notifications were sent out to App Store users, informing them that they could now make transactions using UPI, Netbanking, and RuPay. Also, a separate page containing instructions on how the new payment modes can be set up. To access the new payment options, Apple advises users to have updated iOS, macOS, or iPadOS versions.

RuPay is a financial service system launched in 2012 that enables electronic payments both in banks and financial institutions across India, just like Mastercard or Visa. UPI, on the other hand, is an instant payment system. It was launched in 2016, and since then, it has experienced tremendous growth in India. Google Play Store already had all these systems available as payment modes for users to purchase entertainment services - particularly in India - and now Apple users will be able to enjoy this service too.

To add a payment method on your mobile Apple device:

  • Navigate to your device's Settings and tap on your Apple ID.
