Twitter Reportedly Working on a Podcasts Tab
Seeking to expand its audio offerings, Twitter is reportedly working on a new built-in tab dedicated exclusively to podcasts. According to some trusted app researchers, a new podcast button has been spotted both in the sidebar and in the lower navigation panel of the app.
In all likelihood, Twitter is now looking to facilitate podcast discovery for its users and make it easier for audio creators to generate direct links to their products in the app. If implemented, this feature might operate similarly to Revue newsletter subscription cards – a handy option that allows subscribing to newsletters directly from Tweets.
In 2021, Twitter acquired Breaker, a social podcasting app, which was then thought to be the platform’s way to enhance the discovery of Spaces. However, some experts believe that Twitter might have a bigger idea in mind, that is, to turn Recorded Spaces into a more permanent thing for anyone to enjoy at their own pace.
It is hard to predict whether podcasts will remain an attractive path for Twitter to pursue; after all, we have all seen the once incredible popularity of social audio app Clubhouse slowly diminish over time to become nothing more than a regional phenomenon. Still, we hope the new addition will go live one day soon as it should be able to make podcasts a more interactive and engaging experience and provide a way for audio creators to grow their audiences in the app.
Nearly one in two adult Americans listens to at least one podcast every month, and the overall number of monthly podcast audiences in the USA amounts to around 164 million. If Twitter goes right about it, the platform could dominate the area with a lot of potential in it.
