Twitch Experiences Major Outage with Login Difficulties and Search Impairment

Twitch, a streaming site popular with gamers, experienced a major outage on the afternoon of January 3rd, 2023. The outage affected both desktop and mobile users, with some users seeing blank pages for accounts or “an error has occurred.” The outage began at around 1:10 PM ET and was marked as resolved on the Twitch status page at 2:23 PM ET.

Main Part: During the outage, Twitch mobile users were unable to navigate to streamers due to an “error loading followed channels” when they opened the app. The search feature also did not work. This caused confusion among some users, as it made it appear as if their own streamer accounts had been deleted. Twitch noted that the outage could cause issues with the chat not working, login difficulties, and search impairment.

The outage caused a flurry of activity on social media, as users expressed their frustration at the disruption of service. Some users speculated that the outage was due to a cyber attack, while others simply wanted the service to be restored as soon as possible.

While the cause of the outage is still unknown, Twitch has since marked the issue as resolved and service is now back online. This incident serves as a reminder for the importance of maintaining reliable and secure online services, as disruption of service can be a major inconvenience for users.
