Twitch Announces Less Disruptive Ads That Won't Interrupt Streams
Twitch is executing a new elective ad system that is less disruptive, allowing users to see streams while the ads play. One could say that there is an antagonistic relationship between Twitch and its community. While the streaming platform has brought on close to 350 diversity tags attributed to the high community demand, controversies exist arising from banning users most times for ambiguous and obscure reasons. Another point of criticism of the site is its many adverts, which makes for an unpleasant experience for many users. Twitch is now trying out new systems to address this.
In a recent Twitter post, Twitch announced a new form of ad called Stream Display Ads. The company's tweet, accompanied by a short video clip, highlighted the less disruptive nature of this new system. Going with users' feedback, they have decided to place new ads at the bottom of the stream so that users can still hear and see the streamer. In addition, an optional feature exists in which content creators may opt out of the new format. Twitch is open to feedback from its community on the new system.
The disruptive nature of ads makes this new system more welcoming promoting uninterrupted streaming. From an information source on Stream display ads, Pre-roll ads targeted at newcomers may still be present on the site. Content creators will still be able to receive revenues from these new ads. This is great news for popular streamers like Amouranth, who are highly dependent on ad revenue.
Last year, Twitch tried out mid-roll ads, and now that it is looking to implement a much less disruptive system, it is even better. The company still maintains its stand for pre-roll ads for newcomers. They hope that there will be a change to user banning controversies with the Stream Display Ads.
