PUBG Lite Shutting Down by May: Only the Strong Survive

Liam Alexander 02 Mar 2021

One of the reasons behind ubiquity of PlayerUnknown BattleGrounds was a great choice of versions that could run on anything, from gaming PCs to budget mobile phones. PUBG Lite was contributing heavily, among others, due to its low system requirements compatible with potato PCs and free-to-play model. But now it’s coming to an end, having lost the Battle Royale of the Battle Royales.

Since March 31, 2021 the web page of the game is unavailable, so players cannot download and install it. Those who already have it installed can enjoy it till the end of April 2021. Then the servers will be down. As the publisher explains, the reason to shut down PUBG Lite is economical.

One of the reasons the Lite version was so popular was its free-to-play model, with microtransactions not necessary at all. But now when the main version of PUBG is switching to the same scheme, it’s no more an advantage. As for disadvantages, some players name numerous cheaters that have been making the game almost unplayable. Though it has not been articulated by the developers, the players discuss this version of events vividly. Nothing is so far offered in place of the closing project, and that disturbs the players the most. The other versions of PUBG require more powerful hardware or other class of devices.
