No More Adult Video Games Sale on eBay

Liam Alexander 20 May 2021

While eBay has always been hard about selling adult entertainment items, the new policy that gets implemented on June 15 makes the restrictions even harsher. The most prominent of the new additions is complete ban on selling “adult video games”. Now they are equalized to other porn content.

It’s put in words that sound quite formal. The new rules prohibit sexually oriented materials, including videos, comics, manga (hentai and yaoi named separately), and stuff. Video games that contain explicit materials are formally also banned. Selling them – no matter in physical or digital copies – will be banned on eBay. It’s especially hard because there is no more “adult only” category. All the items that qualified will be removed and taken off sale. The accounts of sellers may even be banned.

Well, the question is how to tell a porn game from an adult one that’s not centered on sex and nudity. If we apply “one scene rule”, it means that House Party or Leisure Suit Larry appear in the same category with Grand Theft Auto, The Witcher, or Yakuza series, as well as masterpieces like Disco Elysium and What Remains of Edith Finch. This is the eternal problem with any sort of censorship, no matter if it’s state or private.
