Instagram Will Let Users Pin up to Posts on Profiles

Grace Edwards 02 May 2022

Pinning the most important post or several is a great way to tell new subscribers or visitors more about your profile. Now, Instagram will let its users pin up to three posts to ease access to them. As for May 04, the feature is under testing and only available to select users, but if the results are satisfactory, everyone on Instagram will be able to enjoy it.

Pinned posts will be the first thing a visitor sees on the page. The first insights into the new feature were provided by Salman Memon (India), one of the first bloggers to test it. As we see from his tweet, this feature is available from the menu. Click on the three-dot icon and select the "Pin to your profile" option.

The practice of pinning posts is common on social media and can be traced back to LiveJournal, a blog service popular back in the 2000s. These pinned posts have been used to indiscreetly tell the guests what to expect from the blog. The most recent posts appeared right under the pinned one. Now, this practice continues on Facebook and Twitter.

Previously, Instagram had enabled users to pin stories in the Highlights sections that appeared above the post grid. The pinned posts will show within the grid. To ley the visitors know, they will have a white pin symbol in the upper right corner. The latest posts will appear right under them.

It’s not clear yet when the feature will make it to all the Instagrammers, and whether it will become available everywhere in the world, or country by country. Other testers didn’t confirm it yet. Neither did Instagram itself, though such announces usually appear when an upcoming feature is virtually ready.

Are you already thinking which of your Instagram posts you would pin? Do you think this feature will be helpful in choosing who to follow and what to expect from these accounts? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section!
