Google Introduces ‘Results About You’ That Allows Removing Personal Information

It seems that Google is planning to release a privacy tool that will allow common people to remove personally identifiable information from the net and hide their contact info. This feature was first talked about in May and after just half a year it may soon become available to all users.

The newly-made section called ‘Results About You’ will allow people to use the Google app to remove search results that contain their personal information such as email, home address, phone number, etc. In order to access the new feature, a person will have to tap on the three dots that are located in the top-right corner of regular search results.

The new feature was first spotted by 9to5Mac, and it seems like people in the US and Europe have been provided access to this new tool. The requests to delete personal information from Google search results are also tracked, allowing people to find out whether they are “In progress” or if they were “Approved”.

When a person uses this tool, they will be asked the reason why they wish to delete this particular page from search results. The person will be presented with choices such as “reveal my contact information”, “uses my info aiming to harm me”, etc.

Back in April, changes have been made to Google’s privacy policy, allowing people to make requests about deleting personal information that could be used in a malicious way.

Google has already made a statement that each request will be carefully considered in order to ensure that useful information in news articles and public records is not removed using this method. As a result, official sources and government websites should be safeguarded from such claims.
