Facebook-Owned Apps Start Launching Meta Branding
The big-four of Facebook-owned social media apps, including Facebook, Messanger, WhatsApp, and Instagram have recently changed their branding to Meta on both iOS and Android devices.
Finally, Meta
The change was first noticed in the last week’s beta version of WhatsApp. Today, all four applications show the new Meta logo on their launch screens. The update came quite quickly, in less than a week after Mark Zuckerberg’s announced the new brand.
More Than Naming?
According to the last week’s Facebook announcement, the change of the brand name is called to symbolize the new era in the company’s history and the new vector of its development. Ex-Facebook wants to go beyond traditional social media and introduce some sort of a metaverse. Judging by Zuckerberg’s words, the company is currently developing a brand new immersive experience that will compete with similar upcoming projects by Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. The purpose of rebranding is also supposed to attract more attention to the ex-Facebook’s metaverse project. Let’s call it a first mover’s advantage.
At the same time, we haven’t noticed any other changes in Meta-owned apps yet. Probably, we should wait a bit more for the company to release the immersive AR experience they’ve been working on for the last several months. Zuckerberg said that it will allow users to interact online in an immersive way.
What Will It Be?
Although the new branding is currently discussed by everyone, it’s not clear how the company will change the social networking experience. What do you think? Will it be a new video-sharing feature set? Or maybe some sort of a virtual world where we all would be able to interact in a gamified manner?
