Double Standards: Twitch Had a No Ban List

As it turns out, the popular streaming platforms had a “Do Not Ban” list, which contained names of the popular streamers. The fact was revealed during a recent leak.

A recent mega leak that Twitch has experienced, revealed an interesting detail: the platform had a “no ban list” for the top streamers. Among them were such names as Geek and Sundry, Rice Gum, Djwheat, Tyler1, and others.

The document wanted moderators not to take action in case complaints about a certain whitelisted channel would flood them.

However, some former employees comment that the pardon list is no big deal. First, it wouldn’t be a “get-out-of-jail” card in every scenario: for the grave violation of the platform’s rules, the ban would ensue in any case.

Second, the list existed only to let the popular streamers create non-gaming, which was a strict no-no back in the day.

Now, Twitch allows streaming basically anything, as long as it doesn’t contain pornographic or illegal materials. But five years ago it was a games-only place.

And finally, the list is no longer in use, just like some other moderation tools. Interestingly, it stated that certain people must not be banned in any scenario.

Twitch’s co-founder Emmett "Sarbandia" Shear was in the cohort of “chosen ones”. At the same time, the platform had applied repressive measure toward certain creators in the past.

Among them are Yoda, Brunenger, DrDisrespect, MissbehavinOfficial, Brunenger, and others. Thus, it shows that “firing” a popular streamer does happen once in a while. Although the VIP lists like this do leave a bitter aftertaste.

This case shows that “mere mortals” and content creators are strongly segregated. Which of the banned streamers would you like to return? Let us know in the comments.
