Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Is Planned for Release Later in 2022

In 2019, fans of the franchise got Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and now developers of the game announced that a sequel will become available in late 2022. This new game is currently in development, and the team is also actively working on a follow-up to Warzone, a battle royale game that became quite popular.

At the moment, there is no information regarding the name of the upcoming Modern Warfare sequel. It would be quite confusing if the studio decides to name the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The reason is that there is already a game with that title released in 2009 as a sequel to the 2007 edition of the game. Hopefully, developers will switch things up and choose another name for the game.

According to the Activision blog post, the sequel to Warzone is being designed ‘from the ground-up,’ which means that we can definitely expect a full-on continuation of the battle royale game. Both upcoming sequels will run on a new engine created by Infinity Ward.

The Warzone sequel will come with an updated sandbox mode and also a new playspace. The team of developers mentioned that their new game will represent a serious ‘evolution of battle royale’ so there is surely a lot to look forward to. At the moment, it is difficult to say how involved the game’s initial developer Raven Software is in the game, as it’s obvious that Infinity Ward is at the forefront in the process.

The blog post provided by the studio didn’t mention any information about the release of the upcoming Warzone sequel. It should be released later in 2022 and it’s likely that it will happen right at the end of this year.

Are you excited about the future sequels? What do you expect from them? Please, share your thoughts in the comments below.
