A Used-To-Be TikTok Clone Relaunches

While Trump was still in office, a part of his anti-Chinese campaign was to ban TikTok.  This caused numerous TT-clones to appear like mushrooms in the rain.

Byte — the name was probably inspired by its “biter” nature — was one of them. However, it could never outsell TikTok and was shortly discontinued.

Now, the app gets a second life. As part of a new project dubbed Clash, it won’t compete with the Chinese dancy application. Instead, it will let the most devoted fans support and contact their favorite authors.

Clash is like a bizarre mixture of Patreon, OnlyFans, and Twitch. Authors will be able to shoot and montage short vids to entertain their most devoted fans.

However, the central gimmick here is monetization. Followers can reward their most cherished instant media idols with Drops — the in-app tokens, which play the role of tips.

They can be translated into real dollars. The minimum money amount available for redeeming is $25. And the cool part is that so far, creators can enjoy a commission-free period — the app won’t charge them anything.

What Clash strives to bring is a new strategy. With it, you can attract fans from different social media — TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Twitch — and engage with them directly.

One of the unique Clash features is the paid-for Fanmail. With it, followers can DM an author and receive a direct, non-cliche response.

To pay back for loyalty, authors can create exclusive content for devotees. This is where Clash picks up OnlyFans’ tune. Only in a less venereal manner.

Clash launches this autumn. First, it’ll debut on App Store, and then release an Android version. It is expected, creators will enjoy a commission-free period till some time in the next year.
