The Top Five Standout Personas in Multiversus

Liam Alexander 07 Jul 2024

Last year's smash phenomenon, MultiVersus, returns, now released in its full glory. This signifies that anyone can download it (since it's free-to-play) and dive into the fray with a plethora of iconic figures. I've scrutinized the game and shared my thoughts, which you can access here.

To ease your initiation, I'll share my top five combatants in the final release—a contrast from the beta with character redesigns and a class eradication. But before detailing my favorites, let's address my standpoint. The game's just been out for a while; it's too soon for anyone to fully master the characters. As history shows with titles like Street Fighter II, opinions on character tiers might evolve for years as new strategies and game mechanic exploits emerge.

My selection is based on my gameplay experience—I've clocked roughly 100 hours (excluding the beta) as a critic. So, while my perspective isn't all-encompassing, I have a solid understanding of the fighting genre and have had the honor of playing alongside some of Sweden's finest combatants.

This curated list is meant for those who relish virtual combat and aim to excel but aren't necessarily export contenders. This guide should serve as a practical starting point for you. So, without further ado, gear up for some intense mascot combat!

Arya Stark

Arya's reputation from Game of Thrones as a formidable force carries through in MultiVersus. She shines in the complete game just as she did in the beta. Paired with a character like Black Adam, who can pave the way for Arya's stealth attacks, she stands as a top contender. Arya's diverse skills keep adversaries guessing, especially with her ability to mirror their moves. With her long reach, formidable offensive abilities, and swift movements, Arya becomes a dynamic and threatening opponent.

Black Adam

Although Black Adam might not seem like the natural choice for solo play, in team battles, he's invaluable. His robust combo attacks disrupt opponents and hinder their teamwork. His standard combo can launch an adversary in one swift move, creating opportunities for devastating ally-coordinated strikes. Black Adam's electrical abilities ensure adversaries remain vigilant, preventing them from careless advances. While categorized as a bruiser, Black Adam shines as the premier support character currently in the game.

The Joker

My most exasperating online matchups involve The Joker. Skilled players can dominate by leveraging his chaotic arsenal of balloons, pies, and, notably, his rapid and forceful rocket launcher. Recognizing his potential for havoc, the developers have balanced him with attack cooldowns. His nimbleness helps mitigate these limitations. The Joker may indeed undergo future adjustments, so now's the chance to revel in his current prowess.

Banana Guard

With little understanding of Adventure Time, I had no preconceived notions about Banana Guard. However, this character has emerged as an accessible and potent choice for newcomers. Boasting high power, impressive speed, and extensive range, he's incredibly satisfying for beginners to handle. Amplify his capabilities with Speed Force Assist and Pugilist perks for a lethal combination. Paired with Black Adam, you'll leave many seasoned players in despair. Like The Joker, I anticipate possible future adjustments for Banana Guard, so enjoy the current advantages.

Superman

Despite my affinity for DC, Superman has never been a personal favorite. His near-invincibility, save for his kryptonite weakness, coupled with his questionable fashion decisions, has always been a tough sell. Nonetheless, in MultiVersus, Superman is my go-to character. He retains his formidable strengths from the beta, and his proficiency makes him an outstanding choice for newcomers learning the ropes of the game. His immense strength, agility, and flight create a unique advantage in recovery and engaging opponents. With his natural ability to grab and punch flying enemies, Superman often secures KOs with relative ease on unsuspecting foes.
